Vlaamse instelling voor technologisch Onderzoek – the Flemisch Institute for Technological Research, based in Mol, Belgium, is a research organisation providing technological solutions and scientifically based advice to stimulate sustainable development. Based in Delhi, EBTC is being established by EUROCHAMBRES, the Association of European Chambers of Commerce and Industry, leading a consortium of 16 business and research organisations from Europe, all of them with a track record in India. EBTC operates with an initial budget of € 8.2 mln, of which 80% is financed by the EU. In July of 2009, the Leaders of the Major Economies Forum on Energy and Climate (MEF), representing the 17 largest economies of the world, launched the Global Partnership for low-carbon and climate-friendly technologies. As an initial step, they requested a suite of plans, which now span ten climate-related technologies that together address more than 80% of the energy sector carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions reduction potential identified by the IEA.
