18th February 2010, Brussels

The workshop set the stage for the launch of the EU-India Cleantech initiative.

After a presentation by Dirk Fransaer, Director of VITO, on the objectives and future development of the project, the following speakers shared their expertise on the current and expected opportunities for collaboration on key segments of cleantech between the EU and India: RK Pachauri, Director-General, TERI and Chairman, IPCC; Ajay Shankar, Former Secretary, Department of Industrial Policy and Promotion, Indian Ministry of Commerce and Industry; Fabrizio Barbaso, Deputy Director General, Energy and Transport Directorate General, European Commission; and Poul V. Jensen, Director, European Business and Technology Center.

In the second part of the meeting, a roundtable discussion launched the work process that will result in the definition of a strategy to enhance EU-India partnerships on cleantech.

The participants will continue working on the drafting of the Strategy in an interactive process that will take place over the following months. In this process, the Strategy will be developed both through online contributions and punctual bilateral meetings between the organisers of the project (VITO/TERI) and the participating companies.

The second workshop, 25th June 2010, will be the occasion to discuss the draft Strategy resulting from this process, and prepare the EU-India Business Summit that will be held second part 2010 in Brussels.
